Disney Invents 3D Colouring Books

Following on from Crayola’s ‘Color Alive Line’ Disney Research has taken the integration of colouring books and apps one step further with a new augmented reality app that brings colouring to life by allowing children to see a colouring book character move right before their eyes as they’re colouring in.

The stunning effect is made possible by tracking and capturing real-time images directly from a camera in your mobile device, then mapping them onto any 3D deformable surface.

Disney are continuing to research and develop the app so don’t expect to be able to download it quite yet, but it’s no doubt it’s a fantastic way to bridge the experience of colouring with crayons and pencils and the traditional touchscreen apps and games. It is sure to engage and retain children’s attention, and for that matter parents to.
